screen-shot-2016-10-12-at-13-20-06Following Tuesday’s announcement by the BBC that contestant Will Young would no longer be participating in this season’s ‘Strictly Come Dancing’, UK bookmaker William Hill has moved to refund all bets placed on the pop star to win the competition.

The departure of Young narrows Strictly’s celebrity line-up to twelve contestants as the show enters its fourth week. BBC management confirmed to UK media that Young would not be replaced.

Detailing its Strictly betting market, William Hill’s trading team noted that it had seen substantial wagering on Young winning the competition as the pop singer had been the early market favourite.

Joe Crilly William Hill Entertainment Spokesman commented on Will Young’s departure from Strictly

“Before a single dance was unveiled, Will Young was the favourite to win, and while he slipped down the betting over the first couple of weeks, there were plenty of people who backed him and they can now reinvest on someone else to win this year’s show ”.

Readjusting its ‘Strictly Come Dancing 2016 Winner’ market, William Hill has placed soap-star Danny Mac as its 11/8 favourite to win the competition.
