Kindred Group shuts down Stan James Online

Kindred Group Plc has confirmed the full closure of its Stan James Online brand, completing the full migration of customers onto its lead Unibet sports betting platform.

Closing its Stan James Online asset, Kindred Group chooses to focus its UK growth through legacy brand Unibet and acquired online casino operator 32Red.

In October 2015, Kindred Group moved to expand its presence within the UK market, by acquiring the online sports betting division of Stan James Gibraltar for £19 million.

Completing its first UK-centric acquisition, Kindred governance stated that it would maintain the Stan James brand for a ‘transitional period’.

Last October Kindred Group Chief Executive Henrik Tjärnström detailed to UK media that his firm would move to shut-down Stan James Online operations by early 2018, with governance focusing its UK sportsbook operations through the flagship Unibet brand.

Founded in 1973 by Steve Fisher and James Holder, as a single betting shop in Wantage Oxfordshire, Stan James was one of the pioneering firms in telephone betting, listing its market through the UK’s terrestrial TV Teletext service.

Stan James will maintain its operations as a highstreet bookmaker, with a UK retail betting portfolio of 90 betting shops.
