Sky tech graduates complete boot camp stage

Boot CampSky Betting & Gaming’s continued attempts to breed the next generation of online gambling tech talent has taken a further step forward with the news that 25 early-career tech recruits have graduated from the 14-week intensive tech boot camp stage of its software academy programme.

The programme saw aspiring developers and testers working on projects in either the gaming or betting side of the company’s operations. The graduates from across the country have all passed the first stage of the process, and will now progress to nine months of rotational placements within the company’s tech departments.

Sky Betting & Gaming has been pushing its status as a leading tech innovator in the north of England. Back in September, the company launched a coding initiative as part of National Coding Week. It followed it up with an open agile event which saw 80 advanced practitioners turn up for a tech meet up.

The company has also recently held the first in a series of talks at its offices where it invites representatives from the local Leeds business community to talk about their experiences regarding product and marketing.

Harvey Whitford, Sky Betting & Gaming’s Head of Quality Assurance and Test, said that nurturing new tech talent brought with it the bonus of bringing in new thinking and ideas: “It’s been a significant investment for the business but given the standard of the final projects we’ve seen today, it’s one that is proving worthwhile.”

The boot camp graduates worked on two separate projects over the 14 weeks; one was a new approach to monitoring the metrics dashboard, while the other looked at the sports feature toggles on both mobile and desktop.

All the boot camp graduates are guaranteed a job at the end of the 12-month academy and are paid a competitive full-time salary. Anyone interested in applying for future academy courses should apply in the first instance online at http://skybetcareers.com/graduates.
