Eric Hollreiser_1PokerStars has launched poker and casino games in Portugal, after being granted a local license within Portugal’s recently developed, independent regulatory and licensing regime.

PokerStars will offer Portuguese players games such as blackjack and roulette (single and multi-player) on both desktop and all mobile devices. The Amaya-owned company will maintain the highest levels of player fund protection by segregating Portuguese player funds under trust agreements.

In the meantime, while Portugal remains a closed liquidity poker market, PokerStars intends to actively work with applicable Portuguese authorities to help further develop and enhance the Portuguese regulatory framework for poker via the promotion of shared liquidity.

Eric Hollreiser, Vice-President of Corporate Communications for Amaya, said: “We are very happy to offer the world’s leading online poker brand to Portuguese players under a local regulatory framework that ensures rigorous consumer protection and gaming integrity.

“This approval demonstrates our commitment to the responsible growth of online gaming by supporting local regulation that protects players, creates a viable marketplace and provides revenue for local governments.”

Amaya also expects to seal approval to offer sports betting in Portugal through BetStars, which is another brand operating under its Rational Group of gaming-related businesses.

PokerStars has also been using Portuguese superstar Cristiano Ronaldo as a spokesperson for its recent marketing campaigns, which includes the launch of fast-paced ‘Beat The Clock’ tournaments.
