Blackburn Faces Liverpool This Weekend

Although the Blackburn Rovers are currently ranked second to last in the Premiere League following the worst start to the season the team has seen in over 50 years, club manager Sam Allardyce feels Blackburn will be playing a team in decline when they go up against Liverpool this weekend.

Although American company New England Sports Ventures recently took over Liverpool Football Club, Allardyce feels the company will have its work cut out for it in rebuilding the club.

“It’s been, in terms of Liverpool as a football club, one of those football clubs which has gone into decline, which is great shame for the institution that it is,” said Allardyce to Sky Sports News. “I think we all, certainly people my age, remember the Shankly days and how the club was built from there and how it had moved on to be such a worldwide renowned club for its football, for its supporters, for the way it played the game and for the trophies that it won. “That has been overtaken by Manchester United and then of course the big wealth has started to come in. They have to be a little bit patient now they’ve got new owners to try and rebuild that feel-good factor that they’ve had for many years.”

Despite Liverpool’s problems, Allardyce still feels the Rovers will face a tough match on the football pitch on Sunday. However, going into the match ranked higher than Liverpool will certainly give Blackburn a boost of confidence.

“For the first time in many, many years managing in the Premier League, it’s the first time I’ve been going to Liverpool where they’ve been below us,” said Allardyce. “I think we will still, whatever is happening at Liverpool, have to be on our top form, like Sunderland were, like Blackpool were, and try and take advantage of any lack of confidence the Liverpool players might have at the moment.”
