Jay Kornegay – Westgate Las Vegas – Disbelief over Denver win

Jay KornegayLess than a week ago we spoke to Jay Kornegay, Vice President of the Westgate Las Vegas Resort & Casino, ahead of the Superbowl 50 match-up between Carolina Panthers and Denver Broncos.

And now, just a few days after the showpiece event, we caught up with a jubilant Jay to discuss his beloved Broncos first title win since 1998, and a favourable result for the sportsbook.

SBC: First of all, as a fan how happy are you that the Denver Broncos were able to win the Superbowl?

JK: I’m very excited and maybe in disbelief that the Broncos won. I didn’t think this team could win a championship with an offense that struggled on a weekly basis. The Broncos won a lot of games that way this year, but I never thought they could win the Super Bowl until I saw what they did to Brady and company.

SBC: You mentioned that the line was -5.5 for Carolina at the time of our previous interview; how did this change up to the start of the match?

JK: For the majority of the two weeks leading up to the game, we received a lot of Carolina money. Over the last two day prior to kick-off, the Broncos money showed up and balanced the game.

SBC: Cam Newton certainly had a day to forget for Carolina; but was it a memorable and profitable one for the Westgate Las Vegas Resort & Casino?

JK: Since the game was a defensive battle, most of the props went under. Those type of results are very favourable for the house. The betting public wagers on things to happen, which usually means wagering on the “overs”.

SBC: So, a good result all round for you then. We talked last week about potentially challenging the betting records set when Seattle overwhelmed the Broncos in 2014; are you able to confirm whether this was indeed a record breaking year?

JK: We don’t know yet but those figures should be out later in the week.

SBC: Make sure you let us know. And finally, the Superbowl has attracted some huge individual bets in the past; are you able to disclose information on the biggest bet you handled at Westgate?

JK: We had a couple of six figure wagers on the game but an abundance of five figure wagers.
