Former Governor of Maine Gets in on Casino Gambling Debate

There has been an on-going battle in the state of Maine over casino gambling. Many political leaders have been debating whether or not the state should allow gambling before the issue goes before the voters in November. Now former governor Angus King has involved himself in the discussion.

King has been against gambling for a long time and he now has painted a picture of social deterioration if a casino is allowed to open in the western portion of the state in the city of Oxford. People in favor of the casino say that it will bring thousands of jobs to the area and also note that millions of dollars of tax revenue would be created which could help with the state’s current budget deficit. King believes that a casino would create a gambling problem in the state, which he says would offset the millions of dollars that could be gained.

This exact type of debate has been going on in other states in the US for years, but eventually the good outweighs the bad. We’ll have to wait until election time to see how it turns out for the residents of Maine.
