New Jersey Lottery is a Big Winner

Lottery players in New Jersey are not letting a weak economy stop them from trying to hit it big in the state’s lottery. The forty year old New Jersey lottery system outdoes many other states’ operations in sales figures and in the amount of money it provides to the state. And this year, in spite of the weakened economy, the New Jersey lottery broke all past revenue records.

The New Jersey Lottery is one of the very few programs in the state that brings in more money for the state’s budget than it spends. The lottery is well promoted and it fulfills its mission of raising money for state education programs and for various programs for the underprivileged. During the last fiscal year, the lottery raised $924 million to support public programs which included community colleges, school nutrition and programs supporting veterans and the disabled.

It could be that the extended recession is giving players the incentive to buy tickets, as people enjoying dreaming of big winnings in spite of the high odds of that occurring.
