Yahoo Esports goes live with Rene, Gafford, Cocke and Walker

After much anticipation Yahoo has today announced the launch of Yahoo Esports.

The company is looking for it to follow the lead of its successful Yahoo Sports product, and the esports section will look to provide the best experience by providing news and video content. It will initially focus on five titles; League of Legends, CS:GO, Heroes of the Storm, Streetfighter V and Dota 2.

A number of experts have been hired including Andrea Rene as main host who’ll cover weekly tournaments and unique features. Travis Gafford will lead Yahoo’s League of Legends coverage, which Taylor Cocke will assist with in addition to Dota 2.

Dylan Walker will be responsible for Heroes of the Storm and Counter-Strike: Global Offensive content, having reported for Team Liquid amongst others in the past.

Matt Edelman, Product Manager, Yahoo Esports said: “Today, esports fans jump from place to place to understand what’s happening across professional gaming. We’re launching a comprehensive destination for esports fans everywhere, focused on delivering professional analysis, video content, live matches, team rosters, schedules, chat and more. And because esports is 24/7, we’ll hide all spoilers by default so fans can enjoy matches on their time.”

Yahoo Esports will cover live tournaments, as well as reporting on player rankings, stats and maintaining an esports calendar. This will be in addition to regular features, news and interviews.

Bob Condor, Vice President of Yahoo Sports Media said of the move: “We’re approaching our coverage of esports with the same tenacity and professionalism we always have with Yahoo Sports, News and Finance. Coupled with our experience in building great products, we’ve gone out and assembled an experienced and innovative content team that will cover esports from every angle.”
