SportsPro Live returns next week with annual conference

Philippe_BlatterSportsPro Live returns this month for a two-day stint at Wembley Stadium, and they’ve gone all out to make the flagship conference a huge success. Here are just a few of the reasons why you should attend on 22nd and 23rd March.

The wonder of Wanda

Philippe Blatter doesn’t do many industry conferences, but the president and chief executive of Infront Sports & Media is doing this one.

Now president and chief executive of Wanda Sports Holdings – after the Chinese giant’s takeover of the Swiss-based agency last year – Blatter will be joined onstage by another Wanda man, Ironman chief Andrew Messick.

Pyne to invest

Dalian Wanda’s recent foray into sport has been well documented, but the Chinese aren’t the only ones represented at SportsPro Live with acquisition money to invest. George Pyne, founder of Bruin Sports Capital, will be delivering a session on what he does best: building value in sport – how to sell, what to buy, and how to make money.

The fight for rights

Eurosport/Discovery are the new holders of the European broadcast rights for the Olympic Games. Meanwhile, Eleven Sports Network, set up by MP & Silva founding partner Andrea Radrizzani last year, is one of the hottest stories in the global sports broadcasting industry.

Radrizzani, together with Eurosport CEO Peter Hutton and the EBU/Eurovision’s director of sport and business Stefan Kuerten, will be at SportsPro Live for a showpiece session on the fight for premium rights and making sense of the scramble.

eSports

No self-respecting conference focused on the future of the sports industry would be complete without sessions on eSports and the rise of fantasy sports. This one is no different, and there are compelling sessions lined up on both.

In-house content creation

Sports entities have woken up to the potential of producing, disseminating and commercialising their own content streams. Yiannis Exarchos, chief executive of Olympic Broadcasting Services (OBS), will be explaining how the IOC intends to go about doing this with its still-mysterious Olympic Channel project.

The tee time talk

New European Tour chief executive Keith Pelley has been lauded for his forward-thinking approach since he took the reins from George O’Grady last year, and he’s well on the way to transforming the organisation for the modern ‘sports and entertainment media organisation’ age. The former broadcast executive will be sharing his vision at SportsPro Live.

The Hayemaker

Following on from last year’s entertaining session on the business of boxing with Barry and Eddie Hearn, former heavyweight champion of the world David Haye will be taking the hot seat this year to give his take on all things fight sports.
