Rescued Chilean Miner Finishes New York Marathon

At least one of the Chilean miners has not yet finished having his 15 minutes of fame. Edison Pena who is called ‘The Runner’ by his fellow underground workers because he jogged while waiting to be rescued has overcome the odds and finished the New York City marathon.
In spite of having knee injuries, Pena completed the 26.2 mile or 42.4 kilometer route in under six hours. He was wearing an official New York Marathon baseball cap with his left knee wrapped in black as he kept up a steady pace while being cheered on crossing the finish line in Central Park.
Before the race Pena said that he wanted to be an inspiration to children to run. Pena and 32 other Chilean miners were rescued last month after a grueling 69 day stay underground.
