Cowboys Fire Wade Phillips

After yet another loss for the Dallas Cowboys, Wade Phillips was fired from his position as the team’s head coach, and the team’s offensive coordinator Jason Garrett has been promoted to the position on an interim basis. The Cowboys lost 45-7 this Sunday to the Green Bay Packers.

“This is a very difficult decision for me, our team, and the organization, “said Cowboys owner Jerry Jones. “We are grateful to Wade for leading us to two divisional championships.”

Jones chose to let Phillips go after the team reached a 1-7 start to the season after Sunday’s loss.

“We are not where we want to be at this time, and that’s an understatement,” said Jones.

Phillips was in the middle of his fourth season with the Cowboys and during his tenure has a record of 34-22. The team won two NFC East titles under his coaching. Garrett is in his third season with the Cowboys.

“I do believe that Jason has the temperament, the disposition to effect a culture change,” said Jones. “I think this is important. His style is one that will be effective.”

Paul Pasqualoni will be taking over as the Cowboys’ defensive coordinator. When Phillips was with the team, he also held this responsibility in addition to his head coaching duties.

Although Jones had hoped at the beginning of the season that the Cowboys would be the first team to play in a Super Bowl on its own field, the team’s five straight losses have indicated the struggles it has faced since the first week of the season. This season’s Super Bowl will be played in the new Cowboys stadium.

In addition to having to adjust to a new head coach, the Cowboys are also down a key player; quarterback Tony Romo is out for the remainder of the season after suffering a shoulder injury during the team’s game against the New York Giants.
