Irish independent bookmaker BoyleSports has confirmed that it has agreed to acquire four retail betting shops from liquidated operator Hacketts Ireland.

The purchase of the betting shops was registered through High-Court appointed liquidator Ken Tyrrell and Declan McDonald of PwC.

The agreed deal will see BoyleSports takeover the management of Hacketts betting shops in Cashel (Co Tipperary), Callan (Co Kilkenny), Mountmellick (Co Laois) and Rathkeale (Co Limerick).

The agreed acquisition brings the number of BoyleSports outlets in Ireland, both North and South, to 212.

Increasing its Irish retail betting portfolio, BoyleSports management stated that it would commit €4 million to a three-year renovation programme across its estates, including its acquired Hackett assets.

The renovation programme will see BoyleSports enhance its shops with the installation of  a suite of new screens and free wi-fi facilities.

Jenna Boyle, Head of Retail at Boylesports, said: “We were saddened by the liquidation of Hacketts, which has been an integral part of the Irish bookmaking landscape for over 50 years. At a retail level the Irish bookmaking sector is the most competitive in the world.

“We would like to welcome our new customers of these four stores to the BoyleSports estate. As well as having the widest range of betting opportunities and the most comfortable surroundings of any betting chain, our new customers can look forward to getting the most competitive prices available in the market.”
