Matt HughanSky Betting and Gaming has employed 27 technology graduates this week to mark the start of its new Software Academy at Wellington Place in Leeds.

The launch of the academy is a key part of the company’s strategy to keep home grown talent in the north of England. Just under 70% of the new recruits studied in Yorkshire, which includes representatives of universities in Hull, Leeds, Sheffield and Bradford. In fact, only 4 of the 27 did not graduate from a northern based university.

An average of £60,000 has been invested into each full-time placement, which come with a competitive starting salary and include a programme of 14 weeks fast-track training, followed by placements within all the major technology teams in Leeds and Sheffield.

Four learning streams will cover Software Engineering, Software Engineer in Test, DevOps and Test Engineer, as well as covering a variety of topics in AGILE, Lean, business skills, databases, scalability and software testing. Graduates will also learn to code Ruby and JavaScript.

Matt Hughan, Head of Recruitment at Sky Betting & Gaming, said; “We’re committed to Yorkshire and have been able to recruit at record rates here over the last 12 months. By offering such high quality placements, we’ve not only been able to hold on to home grown graduates from our local universities, but also to attract those from further afield.”
