Onkenhout takes over the leadership of the Nederlandse Loterij operations, the new enterprise formed following this year’s merger of Dutch state lottery operators Staatsloterij and De Lotto.

Updating the market, Nederlandse Loterij governance confirmed that Onkenhout had joined the company on 1 September, following a transitional period he is to succeed current CEO Frans van Steenis who is set to retire.

Nederlandse Loterij governance stated that it had found the ‘right man’ to lead its operations, detailing that Onkenhout had prior experience in manging merger processes having served as Chief Executive of Dutch supermarket C1000.

Following a government review of state-owned gambling enterprises Nederlandse Loterij was formed with a view of enhancing consumer choice for Dutch state lottery services by forming one unified enterprise.

A Dutch leisure and retail expert, Onkenhout will be tasked with merging Staatsloterij and De Lotto assets, delivering the new enterprises digital operations and services, and growing consumer awareness of its new lottery products.
