Graham Sharpe departs as William Hill media lead following 45-years of service

Graham Sharpe, William Hill’s Media Relations Director has confirmed to the Racing Post that he is leaving the bookmaker following 45 years of service.

Sharpe who joined the bookmaker in 1972, has served as William Hill political betting lead and is the co-founder of the prestigious ‘William Hill Sportsbook of the Year’ prize, the firm’s longest serving sponsorship initiative.

A renowned sports author and journalist, Sharpe has led a number of William Hill’s most innovative entertainment and political markets based on the remit of making betting popular with the general public.

Ciaran O’Brien, Communications Director of William Hill detailed to the Racing Post Sharpe’s significant contribution in raising the company’s PR Profile and playing a pivotal role in changing the industry’s  dynamics and overall strategy with regards media coverage.

“Graham’s name was synonymous with gambling, You couldn’t pick up a tabloid newspaper without reading his name in association with a betting story.”

It appears that moving forward William Hill is set to operate a Smaller communications team, following last month’s departure racing PR lead Jonathan Ivan-Duke.

Having agreed redundancy terms, Sharpe detailed that he would leave the FTSE bookmaker at the end of April, but would remain as an advisor of its Sportsbook of the Year prize.
