ComeOn – Sponsor Profile – #bofcon2017

ComeOn is sponsoring Betting on Football 2017, the fourth edition of the largest international football and betting trade conference at Chelsea FC’s Stamford Bridge.

Ahead of the 3-5 May event, we spoke to Can Yilanlioglu is the Head of Betting at ComeOn, about why football is such an attractive sport for betting, how the market is changing from a consumer perspective and how betting and football stakeholders can work more effectively together.

SBC: Why is football such an attractive sport for betting?

Can: It should be the global popularity of the sport and the number of key events that decide the result. The fact that one goal or one card can change your bet result makes it more exciting than wagering on the likes of tennis, golf or basketball.

SBC: From a consumer perspective, how is football betting changing?

Can: It used to be prematch accumulators placed on desktop back in the day. It’s now moving towards single live bets on mobile more and more. Any bookmaker now has to consider mobile if they wish to succeed. We also see an increasing demand for player specific bets; personalisation is and will remain a key theme in this industry going forward.

SBC: How can betting & football stakeholders work better and more effectively together?

Can: There needs to be increased cooperation for data sharing to maintain the integrity of the sport and to avoid match fixing across sports and events.

SBC: What new technology do you feel will have the biggest impact on football betting?

Can: Wearable technology that can track movements of football players might open many real-time betting possibilities. This is incredibly exciting and stands to become a major niche industry in its own right, with companies who deliver it well poised to reap the rewards.

SBC: What key agenda, debate or discussion do you want to hear at BOFCON 2017?

Can: It will be interesting to hear the panel chats about markets we are looking at entering such as Spain, Italy, Eastern Europe and Asia. The inclusion of a number of panels focusing on certain regions was an excellent idea by the BoF organisers, and should generate a good deal of discussion.
