UK government appoints Bill Moyes as new Chair of the Gambling Commission

The UK Department of Culture, Media & Sport has announced the appointment of Bill Moyes as new Chair of the Gambling Commission for a term of five years commencing this September.

Moyes will take over the leadership of the UKGC from Philip Graf CBE. Karen Bradley the new UK Secretary for Culture, Media & Sport (appointed July 2016) confirmed the appointment of Moyes, with the approval of UK Prime Minister Theresa May.

“I am delighted Bill Moyes is taking up the position as Chair of the Gambling Commission. He has a wealth of experience across the public, private and voluntary sectors, which will serve him well at the Gambling Commission.” Bradley commented.

A civil service veteran, Moyes has served as Director-General of the British Retail Consortium, the representative body for the retail sector.

Between 2004 and 2010 he was the founding executive chairman of The Independent Regulator of NHS Foundation Trusts (Monitor), which authorises foundation trusts and regulates their finances and governance.Furthermore, Moyes has further served as advisor to the Legal Services Board, the Priory Hospital Group and the Office of Fair Trading.
