Square in the Air targets Tipster Challenge lead at Ascot

Square in the Air director Ben Cleminson has signed up to challenge the current Tipster Challenge leader, Sarah Shannon from OneBet, by providing tips for today’s six race card at Ascot.

Cleminson will be hoping that his ‘Nap of the Day’ Happy Like A Fool can produce the goods in the 3:05, while Stephen Harris of bettingexpert has promoted the chances of Highland Reel in the 4:20, who he expects to “put it to bed by quickening clear on the home turn”.

Square in the Air, a communications consultancy for the sports, betting and gaming industries, becomes the seventh company to take the Betting Gods sponsored challenge, after ODDSbible, 888sport, William Hill, BetVictor, OneBet and Sun Bets.

2:30

bettingexpert: Dream Castle

This Godolphin colt has form at the highest level since winning his maiden at Doncaster in April, shaping well in defeat behind Barney Roy and then much better than the bare form when only 5th to Churchill in the 2000 Guineas. This represents quite a drop in class and there should be plenty more improvement in the tank after just three career starts so far.

Square in the Air: Le Brivido

Trained by a genius who doesn’t send them over here often.

bettingexpert: Heartache

Clive Cox has a very strong hand with juveniles, and this precocious filly looked one to follow up in class when winning on debut at Bath.

Square in the Air: Happy Like A Fool (Nap of the Day)

Wesley Ward has won this race for the past two years and can score the hat-trick.

bettingexpert: Qemah

This globetrotting French filly has plenty of solid form at the highest level, and shaped really well despite an expensive Even money defeat in the Group 3 Chartwell Fillies Stakes at Lingfield in May. She had little chance that day against the winner Mix and Mingle, who secured the lead on the favoured stands rail and never saw another rival, but still pulled clear of the rest and has been aimed at this valuable prize ever since by her excellent French trainer.

Square in the Air: Laugh Aloud

Bolted up at Epsom last time and will like the quick ground more than some of her market rivals.

bettingexpert: Highland Reel (Nap of the Day)

This tough and genuine Group 1 performer turned in a terrific effort to land the Coronation Cup at Epsom last time out, taking on the lead having sweated up beforehand but showing a fantastic attitude to see them all off. He could be the lone pace in this race and Moore can put it to bed by quickening clear on the home turn, with the firm ground in his favour.

Square in the Air: Mekhtaal

The front three all have questions to answer with either trip or ground so will go for one at a bigger price.

bettingexpert: Banksea

Luca Cumani’s classy handicapper posted a career best effort to land the Newbury Spring Cup on his seasonal reappearance, swooping late under a typically confident ride from Jamie Spencer. He is now higher in the weights as a result of that, but is just the type his trainer brings gradual improvement out of with age and a fast run, big field handicap on decent ground are his optimum conditions.

Square in the Air: Hors De Combat

Hasn’t won for three years but has some solid form and was unlucky here last time.

bettingexpert: Queen of Time

Henry Candy’s filly is thriving on racing as her stamina has been drawn out, and has impressed in winning her last two starts in competitive handicaps. She is now higher in the weights after those two wins, but seems sure to give her running with conditions to suit and can reward each-way support.

Square in the Air: Sibilance

Unexposed having had just three starts and didn’t run badly on soft ground at York last month.
