The format of the World Boxing Super Series means that the ultimate prize for the victor of Saturday’s bout between Chris Eubank Jr and Avni Yildirim, is a potential semi-final clash with George Groves.
The series is made up of two explosive eight man tournaments from the super-middleweight and cruiserweight divisions, not only providing boxing fans with a plethora of intriguing super-fights, but also a host of exciting ante post betting markets.
Betfair’s Katie Baylis revealed that in the outright betting markets: “It has all been about Chris Eubank Jr, at 11/4, over 50% of bets in the outright market have been on the fighter with the famous family name.”
Baylis also outlined the potential popularity of a domestic dust up between Groves and Eubank Jr should they both get through their respective quarter final ties, Baylis said: “The Eubanks are divisive characters – you either love them or hate them. With that in mind we would suggest interest levels in the event would skyrocket should Groves/Eubank fall out of the early fights.
“We would even suggest that this is something which could top Froch/Groves in terms of volume. It should also be a relatively even match up, so that’s always something which would heighten interest levels and make it a very viable betting proposition for punters no matter which side they fall on.”
Eubank Jr is currently 1/7 to earn a victory this weekend, with Groves 1/6 favourite to outwit Jamie Cox next weekend and set up a hotly anticipated contest between the two. Fellow Brit Callum Smith is the 6/5 favourite to win the tournament outright, whilst Groves is a 5/2 second, closely followed by Eubank Jr at 11/4 in third.
