Playtech commits to Gibraltar expansion with new World Trade Center office

FTSE gambling technology provider Playtech Plc has expanded its operational presence within British overseas territory Gibraltar, opening a new office within the ‘World Trade Center’ complex.

Speaking to Gibraltar news source GBC.gi, Playtech Chief Operations Officer Shimon Akad, stated that the office would expand the firm’s presence within Gibraltar, a key jurisdiction for Playtech commercial pipeline.

Akad detailed that the office expansion made business sense, as a number of Playtech’s largest clients held core operations in Gibraltar.

As a leading industry technology supplier Akad further states that Playtech needs a ‘significant Gibraltar presence’, to bridge services between the territory and its commercial headquarters based in London.

At present, Akad details that Playtech Gibraltar operations have grown to 150 staff members, with the company satisfied with the jurisdiction’s pool of talent and tech resources.

However, Brexit has marked a period of uncertainty for Gibraltar. The UK’s decision to leave the European Union may have ramifications for Gibraltar based industry stakeholders.

The Gibraltar Remote Gambling License may not be sufficient to fulfil operators’ industry regulatory requirements as certain EU member states could potentially deem Gibraltar licensing provisions as ineligible dependent on how the UK leaves the European business community.

Speaking on the subject matter Akad details that Playtech will continue to support Gibraltar as an igaming/betting community.
