Illegal Gambling Raid in Wisconsin Nabs 7

Seven people were taken into custody and charged with illegal gambling Sunday in Sumter County, Wisconsin after a three month long investigation. Acting on tips, law enforcement officers swarmed in on an oriental food store in Wedgefield.

More than $18,000 in cash was removed from the business as were three illegal gambling machines, alcohol and boxes of documents. It is believed that the store owner and friends were running an illegal gaming house of some sort which offered video poker to customers. Gambling machines are illegal in Wisconsin and it is unknown where the machines came from.

All seven who were arrested will face misdemeanor charges. It is expected that the group will face judges sometime during the months of December and January of 2010. Another search was also conducted at the store owner’s home. What was seized there is unknown.
