Gear of War 4 will have a $1 million competitive gaming prize pool

Microsoft and The Coalition have announced a new esports gaming tournament in collaboration with both MLG and Gfinity for the upcoming new addition to the popular Gears of War franchise.

Once Gears of War 4 is released in October, professional and amateur gamers alike will have the chance to amass ‘Gears Pro Points’. There’ll be live events hosted every one to two months in cities including London, Paris, Las Vegas , Mexico City and more. Earning these pro points will qualify players for these LAN events which hosts MLG and Gfinity will organise.

There’ll be a total of eight LAN events over ten months worldwide and there’ll be a combined prize pool of $1m (£750,000) up for grabs.

Microsoft has stated that there will also be an additional $100,000 event at a surprise location and a launch event in October.

Microsoft and The Coalition are clearly aiming to ensure that Gears of War 4 becomes a contender in the world of esports, and a Gears eSports Weekly Broadcast has already been announced.

The London event will take place this December 17th to 18th with 32 teams competing for the $100,000 (£75,000) reward.
