Kyle LaffertyNorwich City striker Kyle Lafferty has been fined £23,000 and warned over his future conduct after accepting a Football Association (FA) charge for betting. The fine relates to Lafferty betting on a match on February 20, 2016, and breaching the FA rule E8 in the process.

It is important to note that Norwich City and Northern Ireland didn’t play on this date in February, however rule E8 prevents professional players not only from betting on matches in which they are involved or have an influence, but also on any other football-related matters anywhere in the world.

An FA statement read: “Kyle Lafferty has been fined 23,000 and warned as to his future conduct after he accepted an FA misconduct charge in relation to betting. The Norwich City forward breached FA rule E8 in respect of a bet placed on the result, progress, conduct or any other aspect of, or occurrence in, a football match or competition on 20 February 2016.”

Lafferty spent the end of last season on loan at Birmingham City after falling out of favour at Norwich, making six appearances and scoring a single goal. A hero for the Northern Irish in qualifying, Lafferty also played in three matches for his country at Euro 2016 as they reached the last 16. He is expected to move to another club before the transfer window closes on August 31.
