Codere enters Colombia’s newly regulated online betting market

Spanish gambling operator Grupo Codere will expand its South American market presence, confirming the launch of its new Colombian online sports betting property Codere.com.co.

Codere becomes the fifth operator to secure a new online gambling license by Colombia’s regulatory body Colijuegos. The group further becomes, only the second international operator to enter Colombia’s new regulated market, following Gaming1’s October approval to launch new Zamba.co

The gambling group gains a five-year license allowing Codere Colombia to operate sports betting and casino games provisions via approved digital and mobile verticals

The Spanish group, has an established presence within Colombia, operating its Crown and Royal Ferrias land-based casino properties in Bogota.

Throughout 2017, Codere governance has stated that it would seek to join the regulated Colombian online gambling market, as the company targets further expansion with South/Latin American markets.

Codere’s new digital property will be operated by online betting division ‘Codere Apuestas’. In 2016, Codere Apuestas signed a three-year international betting partnership with Spanish football giants Real Madrid FC.

Codere marketing has used the football club’s significant brand leverage to promote new projects in Mexico for its digital properties, and will likely follow suit for its Colombia market launch.
