Jdigital ups responsibility initiatives as Spain prepares for market expansion

Mikel López De Torre – Jdigital

Seeking to bolster Spanish market integrity provisions and social responsibility initiatives, Spanish industry trade body, La Asociación Española de Juego Digital (Jdigital), has announced the launch of new information portal JuegoESresponsable (juegoesresponsable.org).

The portal seeks to bring transparency to Spanish online gambling consumers, whilst highlighting responsible gambling practices and social responsibility projects undertaken by Spanish market stakeholders.

Jdigital informs that JuegoESresponsable, has been backed by European betting operators Betfair, bwin, Bet365, Gamesys and William Hill, who have an established presence in the Spanish online betting market.

JuegoESresponsable is the first responsibility initiative launched by new Jdigital President Mikel López De Torre.

“There is a real commitment to responsible gambling from the online industry as a whole, although today the Spanish society has a different perspective, we need to change this. The online gambling industry goes well beyond the regulation in promoting complementary initiatives that most of the users don´t know about,” López De Torre details.

As an industry trade body, Jdigital believes that a deeper focus is needed on integrity and social responsibility matters, as Spain prepares to open its market to new operators in 2018.

As a further responsibility initiative, Jdigital has announced that it has created a ‘code of best practice’ for its market partners.

The trade body will operate the ‘Responsible Commitment for Online Gambling’ code, which aims to strengthen five key responsibility areas for Spanish market operators; compliance, user protection, fraud and money laundering, advertising and sports integrity.

Backing Jdigital directives, Esther Martín-Ortega, Public Affairs Manager Iberia for Betfair, stated: “Now it is the right time to publicize all the good practices that have existed in the industry for a long time but that need to be communicated in a better way.”
