WLA strengthens GLMS sports bond appointing Giancarlo Sergi as General Secretary

International lottery trade body, the World Lottery Association (WLA) has moved to restructure the executive committee of its Global Lottery Monitoring System (GLMS).

Updating the market, the WLA confirms the appointment of Giancarlo Sergi as the new General Secretary of GLMS operations.

Sergi the current President of Swiss Basketball (Fédération Suisse de Basket), is a seasoned veteran of sports governance and integrity dynamics, having worked as a UEFA marketing executive for its EURO Team competitions.

GLMS new General Secretary has further consulted basketball’s international governing body FIBA, on sports integrity matters and has lectured at numerous European academic institutions on sports governance.

Sergi will be further supported by Vagelis Alexandrakis, who joins the GLMS executive team as Deputy Secretary. Alexandrakis joins GLMS from European Lotteries where he most recently served as Executive Secretary for Sports Development (2012-2018).

Updating WLA members, GLMS President Ludovico Calvi detailed that the organisation was pleased to strengthen its sporting knowledge with the appointments of Sergi and Alexandrakis

“With the recent launch of GLMS new Monitoring platform and the new hub in Hong Kong, it is now the right time to strengthen our management team in the massive global fight against Match-Fixing and deliver effectively on our ambitious GLMS strategic agenda.”
