Reels of Fire

Medieval magic is the theme on offer in Reels of Fire, a 5 reel, 20 payline slot from Core Gaming. It comes with base game multipliers that can boost payouts by up to 10x as well as magical wilds and a free spins bonus round with wild reels. Stakes range from between 20p and £100 per spin.

Reels of Fire is a nicely designed slot – the setting is a medieval library full of leather bound books of spells. The reels include A to J symbols in the shape of shields, a knight in a suit of armour, a bearded wizard and a green dragon. The top standard payer is the Reels of Fire logo which awards 7.5 times your total stake if you land 5 on a payline. They’re joined by a wild that awards up to 10 times your stake per payline and replaces everything bar the scatter.

Payouts are boosted by the multiplier chain to the left of the reels – it starts at 1x and increases with each successive win. Get on a roll here and you could be looking at a 10x boost. The Wizard can randomly send the multiplier bucket to a higher spot on the chain too. This is known as the Magic Multiplier feature.

That’s not the only trick the wizard has up his sleeve either as he can also cast a wild spell and in the process, add between 1 and 5 extra wilds onto the reels. A new payout is then made with the extra wilds in position. This is known as the Wild Wizard feature.

Reels of Fire also comes with a Free Spins feature which is triggered by landing the bonus furnace symbol on reels 1, 3 and 5. If you land them on reels 1 and 3, you could get a rewind. The furnaces are held in place and reel 5 spins again, giving you another chance to land the feature. This is known as the Rewind feature. Once you do trigger the feature, you’ll be awarded 15 free spins.

Watch out here for the ignite symbol – whenever 1 of these lands, it will light up a flame below the reels. For every 3 flames that are lit, 1 reel, starting from the right will become a stacked wild. In theory, you could get 15 ignite symbols which will give you 5 fully wild reels!

Like many of Core Gaming’s slots, Reels of Fire is a well-designed game – the features aren’t bad either. Even with the ever-present multipliers and the occasional magic wilds, we found it difficult to land anything approaching a big win in the base game. We did win regular small wins though. The stacked wilds in the feature round offer more potential. We’d put the variance in the medium range.
