Spain’s regulator publishes new three-year strategy

Publishing its new three-year strategy, the Spanish gambling regulator Dirección General de Ordenación del Juego (DGOJ) has confirmed that it will be placing more of a focus upon responsible gambling measures.

The new strategy, which is set to last until 2022, intends to promote social responsibility while also ensuring that licensees to develop new products and services.

The DGOJ has outlined four key priority areas as part of the Charter of Services which it seeks to address, including: ensuring the development of a safer gaming environment for players; encouraging licensees to develop new products across all channels; strengthening current responsible gambling controls; and have a positive impact upon Spanish society.

The regulator will collaborate with operators to research and develop new strategies which identify and prevent harm, while also looking to ensure clear lines of communication between the licensee and its customers, allowing users to flag issues or settle disputes.

Initiatives will also be launched which provides education to players surrounding the importance of responsible gambling, in addition to publishing updates on efforts to tackle gambling-related harms.

Advertising is set to come under close scrutiny from the regulator, also, following recent controversies in the country. It will look to encourage more operators to embrace omni-channel as part of a drive to encourage innovation in the industry.
