Betclic nets first Polish partnership with Lechia Gdansk

French betting group Betclic has confirmed its first-ever Polish football sponsorship becoming a principal partner of Ekstraklasa league football club Lechia Gdansk.

The partnership will see the Betclic brand replace German betting group Merkur Sportwetten Polish market subsidiary Totolotek on the back of Lechia’s matchday shirts.

Entering 2019, Betclic governance confirmed that it would launch its sportsbook services for the Polish marketplace, which had seen a number of European bookmakers withdraw from the market following the introduction of a 12% turnover tax.

Furthermore, Poland’s Ministry of Finance requires all licensed betting firms to maintain an active presence within the country in order to operate online gambling services.

The stringent requirements see Betclic and Czech betting group Fortuna Entertainment as the only licensed international bookmaker, competing in a marketplace of fifteen incumbents licensed by Poland’s Ministry of Finance.

Meeting regulatory demands, Betclic has established its Polish operational offices in the Southern city of Katowice.

Commenting on market developments, Bartłomiej Płoskonka Betlic Country Manager for Poland stated that the French betting group was actively seeking sports sponsorships to expand its profile, with ‘further advancements to be announced shortly’.
