OPAP has launched a ‘direct response programme’ which will support public health networks and emergency services in its home markets of Greece and Cyprus.
Last week OPAP, the operating firm of the Greek National Lottery confirmed that it had donated 500,000 surgical masks and further emergency equipment to be directly used by Greece’s National Health Service.
The Athens-listed firm detailed that it is working directly with Greece’s Ministry of Health in distributing the supplies to critical hospitals combatting the COVID-19 pandemic.
Working with the government, OPAP has confirmed that it will financially support the Greek emergency network’s ‘DoctorAnytime’ national helpline, allowing concerned citizens to seek direct professional advice on coronavirus and other health matters.
OPAP underlined its close relationship with Greek health networks, having funded the development of Athens paediatric hospital as a core social responsibility initiative.
Further directives have seen OPAP confirm that it will fund a new Intensive Care Unit (ICU) within Cyprus’ Nicosia General Ward Hospital.
Dimitris Aletraris, OPAP Chief Executive for Cyprus, confirmed that the gambling group had agreed to finance the development of the care unit for €1.3 million, which is expected to open in summer 2020.
He said: “We want to assure all citizens that OPAP is an ally during this crisis time.”
