Kindred outlines new energy targets in line with Paris Agreement

Building on its commitment to be a socially responsible operator, Kindred Group has stated that it will aim to reduce business travel by 30% in line with the energy saving targets set by the Paris Agreement on climate change.

The Paris Agreement was signed in 2016, and outlines protocols within the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change which deal with greenhouse-gas-emissions mitigation, adaptation and finance.

In its statement, Kindred stated that it has aligned its energy targets with the accord which aims to limit temperature rise to below 2°C above pre-industrial levels, with further ambitions to limit it further to below 1.5°C.

Henrik Tjärnström, CEO Kindred Group, explained: “We know that businesses have an important role to play in fighting climate change and we are committed to doing our bit for the planet.

“Our science-based carbon-reduction targets focus on cutting carbon emissions across our data centres, offices and business travel activities. They are also linked to our 2023 ambition to procure 100 per cent of our electricity from renewable sources of energy where we can.”

By 2023, Kindred aims to reduce 85% of absolute scope one, all direct emissions from the activities of an organisation, and scope two, indirect, emissions from a 2018 base year.

In addition, the online operator also alluded to the fact it’s an all digital company and the strategies employed to reduce greenhouse gas emissions are science-based, thus necessary to meet the goals of the Paris Agreement.
