Coinbase App takes over number one spot from TikTok in U.S. App Store

Cryptocurrency exchange Coinbase has taken over the number one spot and tops the charts for the U.S. Apple App Store.

Today, Coinbase is the most popular app in the United States and is leaving TikTok, YouTube, Facebook, Instagram, and trading app Robinhood behind. Another (crypto) payments App, Cash App, holds the #12 position with Binance and Trust taking spots #16 and #17, respectively with their apps.

According to data from analytics site SensorTower, Coinbase’s app was downloaded around 2 million times in April.

Coinbase’s app has always been high in the rankings this year, but never leading the pack. The company’s direct listing on Nasdaq did see attention from the public spike which undoubtedly led to an increase in the number of desktop and mobile users.

The surge in popularity of crypto related applications such as Coinbase’s app and Robinhood underlines a boom in retail trading over the last months and “meme stock” culture around names like GameStop and more recently Dogecoin.

It is important to note that App Store rankings represent the momentum in downloads of an application and not the total cumulative downloads. Therefore, it can be seen an indication of crypto trading increasingly mainstream.
