Twitch bans “dodgy” gambling related links and referrals

Live streaming platform Twitch has announced new restrictions in order to prevent harm and scams by questionable gambling services that sponsor content on Twitch. Gambling-related links and referral links will be banned. Twitch shared the news in a Creator Update on Wednesday.

In order to give creators time to make changes to content on their channels, the enforcement will be implemented from August 17.

The recent news has started to raise some eyebrows. Twitch has been a popular platform for streamers in the “gaming” space and the platform even has dedicated categories for Slots, Poker and Online Casino. The company’s general policy currently allows gambling as long as it is legal in the locality where the streamer is creating its content from.
