Happy 13th Birthday Bitcoin!

Today January 3, Bitcoin has officially reached it adolescent years as it celebrates its 13th anniversary since 13 years ago, Satoshi Nakamoto, Bitcoin’s pseudonymous creator, mined the Genesis Block, or also known as block 0. Since then, 716995 more blocks were mined on the Bitcoin blockchain, 1 roughly every 10 minutes.

Embedded in the first block Satoshi included the quote, “The Times 03/Jan/2009 Chancellor on brink of second bailout for banks.”

Today, we celebrate that 90% of its capped total of 21 million is mined. In the years since its inception, Bitcoin has been functional for 99.99% of the time (uptime), the last time the network was down has already been 3,221 days ago.

Bitcoin’s value has grown and has made significant gains year on year.
