DeFi and NFTs Top Trends for 2022 According to “Controversial Investment Guru” Cathie Wood

In an interview published in TIME magazine on Monday, ARK Invest founder and chief executive officer Cathie Wood said that blockchain technology is among the five key trends her investment fund will closely monitor in 2022.

In the article where Wood is described in the title as a “controversial investment guru,” she specified that it will mainly be decentralized finance (DeFi) and non-fungible tokens (NFTs) to look out for.

When asked about what trends her firm is expecting to emerge this year, Wood mentioned “five innovation platforms,” with already solid scientific evidence and scaling opportunities.

One of those innovations would be DNA sequencing which she believes will transform healthcare, while another opportunity is in the field of “adaptive” Robotics, according to Wood.

Furthermore, the Ark Invest founder calls out Artificial Intelligence and Energy Storage as too big trends for 2022.

Lastly, TIME reports that Wood expects decentralized finance (DeFi) and non-fungible tokens (NFT) to continue its momentum and shine in 2022. She believes that DeFi has the potential to take over a large share of traditional finance already. In 2021, data estimate that over $44 billion worth of NFTs were sold while the DeFi sector had more than $240 billion in total value locked (TVL).
