Arizona State Senator Proposes Bill to Make Bitcoin Legal Tender

Arizona state Senator Wendy Rogers has put a bill forward that would make Bitcoin legal tender in the state should the legislation be accepted.

The bill, SB 1341, looks to amend the list of accepted legal tender to include Bitcoin, which means the cryptocurrency would be accepted for debt payment, public charges, taxes and other dues.

Nevertheless, it is highly unlikely that Rogers’ initiative will be approved since the U.S. Constitution doesn’t allow individual states to have their own legal tender.

Prior to Arizona Governor Doug Ducey signing the proposal into law,the bill must still pass the Arizona state senate and house.

In another U.S. state Don Huffines, a Republican real estate developer running for governor in Texas governor, said he would make Bitcoin tender if he’s elected.

So far, El Salvador remains the only sovereign nation that has made Bitcoin legal tender, since its Bitcoin Law came into effect last year.
