The Ukraine government’s call for donations to resist Russian forces in the country has been successful with nearly $10 million in the cryptocurrencies Bitcoin and Ethereum.
The Ukrainian government began asking for cryptocurrency donations on Saturday morning. The official Twitter account for Ukraine tweeted:
Stand with the people of Ukraine. Now accepting cryptocurrency donations. Bitcoin, Ethereum and USDT.

According to on-chain data, so far $5.2 million has been sent to the Ethereum wallet, including $1.1 Tether and $109,000 in USDC. The effort’s Bitcoin wallet received $4.2 million of which already $2.9 million was withdrawn.
According to blockchain analytics firm Elliptic the donations “includes a single donation worth $1.86 million, which appears to have originated from the sale of NFTs [non-fungible tokens] originally intended to raise funds for Julian Assange.”
The data also shows that FTX founder Sam Bankman-Fried donated $250,000 in Tether.
